When these are functioning properly, they make an audible growl whilst the circuit is operating. Therefore, if only one side's turn signals fail and the flasher unit cannot be heard, this is indicative of a burnt-out bulb. On hearing the flasher unit an electrical short in wiring system is indicated. Signal failure on both sides could be due to a blown fuse or faulty switch or flasher unit or broken connection. However, check for a blown fuse before installing another one if it has burnt out. For turn signal lamps testing them like you test hazard warning lamps.
