Cadillac DTS Lateral Link Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How do you remove the toe link on Cadillac DeVille and DTS?
A: To remove the lateral link on a 1999 Deville model, start by loosening the rear wheel lug nuts and blocking the front wheels. Then, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the wheel and the fasteners from each end of the lateral link. For installation, follow the reverse steps, making sure to tighten the mounting fasteners and wheel lug nuts to the specified torque. Additionally, have the rear wheel alignment checked and adjusted if necessary. For 2000 and later Deville/DTS models and all Seville models, the removal process is slightly different. Begin by marking the position of the toe adjusting cam at the inner end of the lateral link. Loosen the lateral link-to-Control Arm nut and use a puller to pop the ball stud out of the control arm. Remove the nut and separate the lateral link from the control arm. Then, remove the exhaust system and lower the rear of the suspension support by removing the two bolts from the rear. To detach the inner end of the link from the suspension support, remove the nut, cam washer, and bolt. For installation, follow the reverse steps, aligning the marks on the toe-adjusting cam and suspension support before tightening the link-to-suspension support nut. Finally, tighten all suspension fasteners and wheel lug nuts to the specified torque and have the rear wheel alignment checked and adjusted if necessary.
