Cadillac DTS Radiator Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to disconnect the radiator?
A: To disconnect the radiator, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. If there is a radiator support cover, remove it. Drain the coolant and remove the cooling fans. On models where it would interfere, remove the air filter housing. On early models, remove the left and right torque struts and the airbag sensor from the front radiator brace. Disconnect the transaxle oil cooler lines and engine oil cooler lines, if equipped, from the radiator. Remove the auxiliary transaxle oil cooler, if present. Disconnect the radiator upper and lower hoses, ensuring a pan is ready to catch any spilled coolant. Remove the radiator support from the top of the radiator. If applicable, disconnect the alternator cooling hose from the lower radiator side tank. On late models, remove the radiator to condenser mounting bolts. Lift the radiator straight up and out of the engine compartment, being careful not to drip coolant on the body paint. Inspect the radiator for leaks or damage. Clean bugs and dirt from the radiator using compressed air and a soft brush, being careful not to bend the cooling fins. Inspect and replace the rubber mounting pads as necessary. Lift the radiator into position, ensuring it is seated in the mounting pads. To install the radiator, reverse the removal steps, including installing the radiator support, cooling fans, hoses, and lines. Connect the negative battery cable and fill the radiator. Start the engine, allow it to reach normal operating temperature, and check for leaks.
