Cadillac Eldorado Air Filter Box Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: How to remove and install Air Filter Box?
A: The intake air system provides clean air to the engine, optimizes airflow, and reduces unwanted induction noise. It consists of an Air Filter Box, resonator assemblies, and hoses. A flat air filter element provides maximum air filtration with minimum flow restriction. The main component of the air intake system is the Air Filter Box assembly. The Air Filter Box assembly houses the Air Filter that removes potential engine contaminants, particularly abrasive types. The Air Filter Box housing and ducts are designed to allow the maximum airflow possible with a minimum of noise and to reduce the potential for water ingestion into the engine. If an engine maintenance procedure requires the temporary removal of the Air Filter Box, remove it; otherwise, never run the engine without it. The air filter should be replaced every 30,000 miles (50,000 km). To remove and install, locate the Air Filter Box in the engine compartment. Inspect the flexible air intake ducting for cracks and tears. If the ducting is torn, it should be replaced. The Air Filter may be replaced easily. Remove or disconnect the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor, if equipped and mounted in the Air Filter Box housing. Loosen the intake air duct clamp and remove the air duct as necessary. Disengage the fasteners securing the top of the Air Filter Box. Some fasteners are clips, some are screws depending on the vehicle configuration. Carefully tilt the air filter cover back to expose the element. Remove the air filter element. Wipe out the housing with a clean rag. To install, position the air filter element in the housing, making sure it seats properly. Install the Air Filter Box cover. Connect the intake air duct and tighten the clamp. Install the IAT sensor, if removed, or reconnect as necessary. Install the Air Filter Box fasteners and tighten as necessary.
