Pontiac Fiero EGR Valve Parts Questions & Answers

  • Q: What is the location and troubleshooting process for the EGR valve?
A: On the four cylinder engine, the EGR valve is positioned on the rear side between the rocker arm cover and the Throttle Body, and on V6 engine it is located at the end of the left intake duct and before exhaust crossover pipe. Usually, there could be a problem with the stuck or corroded valve in this emissions system. To prevent burns due to heat of an engine, touch it when cold. Feel underneath your EGR valve and give a push to its diaphragm which is inside. It should move with gentle pressure. The passenger should disconnect any hose from above of EGR valve which consists vacuum then link it with a vacuum pump. Now start your machine letting it reach normal temperature. So long as that engine runs continue applying vacuum onto that EGR valve through your vacuum pump. The engine will then cough and die since no petrol would be supplied by the EGR valves into them if they were found defective following either of above tests.
