- A:To begin, ensure that the system is discharged and disconnect the negative battery cable from the battery. Be cautious if your vehicle is equipped with the Theftlock audio system. Next, remove the air cleaner and intake tube assembly. Proceed by disconnecting the refrigerant lines from the accumulator, using a back-up wrench to prevent twisting the tubing. Remember to plug the open fittings to prevent dirt and moisture from entering. Loosen or remove the mounting bracket and bolts, and then remove the accumulator. If installing a new accumulator, remove the Schrader valve and pour the oil into a measuring cup, noting the amount. Add fresh refrigerant oil to the new accumulator, equal to the amount removed from the old unit plus one ounce. Finally, reverse the removal process for installation.
