- Q:What is the purpose of the Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) system? Posted by Customer
- A:The Brake Transmission Shift Interlock (BTSI) system is a safety feature that prevents the shift lever from being moved out of Park unless the brake pedal is depressed. It also prevents the ignition key from being removed unless the shift lever is in the Park position. The BTSI solenoid is responsible for locking the shift lever in Park when the car is started, and unlocking it when the brake pedal is depressed. To remove the BTSI solenoid in early models, the center console needs to be removed and the electrical connector unplugged. The solenoid assembly can then be pried off from the ball sockets and removed from the shift lever base. In late models, the shift interlock solenoid is integrated into the shifter assembly.
