Loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jack stands. Block the front wheels to keep the vehicle from rolling and release the parking brake. Remove the rear wheels. Remove the brake caliper and the brake disc. Loosen the parking brake cable at the equalizer by holding the cable end with a small wrench while moving the adjustment nut towards the equalizer to loosen the cable. Detach the brake cable and spring from the actuator lever, then separate the cable from the bracket. Remove the rear wheel hub and bearing mounting bolts. Note: The wheel hub and bearing, backing plate, parking brake shoes and related components are removed as an assembly during wheel bearing removal. Remove the cable bracket from the backing plate by removing the two bolts that hold the parking brake cable bracket and actuator to the backing plate. Adjust the actuator to separate it from the brake shoe lining assembly by turning the adjuster wheel on the actuator to release the tension on the brake shoe lining assembly. Remove the small actuator lever and seal, then remove the actuator from the backing plate. Remove the brake shoe lining assembly from the backing plate and from around the wheel bearing and hub by sliding the brake shoe lining assembly away from the clip on the backing plate. The brake shoe lining assembly is removed from around the wheel bearing and hub assembly. Installation is the reverse of removal noting the following points: Tighten the parking brake cable bracket mounting bolts to the torque. Be sure to tighten the wheel bearing and hub assembly mounting bolts to the torque, the caliper mounting bolts and mounting bracket bolts to the torque, and the wheel lug nuts to the torque. Adjust the parking brake. Press and release the parking brake pedal several times and confirm that the parking brake is working properly.
