Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the engine cover. For 3.4L V6 models, label and disconnect the spark plug wires from the coil pack. Disconnect the electrical connectors, then remove the mounting fasteners from the coil pack. Remove the coil pack. For all models except 3.4L V6 models, remove the air cleaner outlet duct if it will interfere with the coil(s) you're removing. Disconnect the electrical connector and mounting fastener from the ignition coil. Remove the ignition coil from the spark plug. For all models, apply a little silicone dielectric compound to the inside of each boot before installing it. Installation is the reverse of removal.

For these engines, you should disconnect the electrical connectors from the ignition coil and from the ignition control module. Also, disconnect the high-tension cable from the coil high-tension terminal. Then, remove the ignition coil/module bracket mounting bolts and remove the coil, module, and mounting bracket from the engine as a single assembly.

For V6 models,Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Disconnect the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor electrical connector. On V6 models, disconnect the MAP sensor electrical connector, then disconnect the electrical connector. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil pack. Disconnect the spark plug wires from the ignition coil. Remove the ignition coil pack mounting bolts. To detach the ignition coil pack on a V6 model, remove the two coil mounting bolts from the front side of the coil pack and the two mounting nuts on the backside of the coil pack and remove the ignition coil pack assembly. Before installing the boots on the ignition coil pack, coat the interior of each boot with silicone dielectric compound. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal. V8 models: Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Remove the engine cover. Disconnect the electrical connector from the ignition coil. To detach an ignition coil from the coil mounting bracket on a V8 model, disconnect the electrical connector, disconnect the spark plug wire, then remove the ignition coil mounting bolts. Disconnect the spark plug wire from the coil. Remove the two ignition coil mounting bolts. To detach an ignition coil from the coil mounting bracket on a V8 model, disconnect the electrical connector, disconnect the spark plug wire, then remove the ignition coil mounting bolts and remove the coil. Installation is the reverse of removal.

To remove the V6 model ignition coil pack, first relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative battery terminal. Then, remove the air filter housing and disconnect various electrical connectors and wiring harness clips. Mark the positions of the spark plug wires and remove the ignition coil pack assembly. For installation, coat the interior of each boot with silicone dielectric compound before installing the boots on the ignition coil pack. To remove the V8 model ignition coil, disconnect the negative battery terminal and remove the intake manifold cover. Disconnect the electrical connector and spark plug wire boot from the spark plug, remove the two ignition coil mounting bolts, and remove the coil. Installation is the reverse of removal for both models.

FOUR-CYLINDER AND 3.6L V6 MODELS (COIL-ON-PLUG TYPE) First, disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, remove any engine covers. If you're working on No. 5 cylinder of a 3.6L models, remove the EVAP canister purge tube. Next, disconnect the electrical connectors from the coils. To remove an ignition coil from a four-cylinder or a 3.6L V6 model, disconnect the electrical connector, remove the coil mounting boll, then grasp the coll firmly and pull it straight up. After that, remove the coil mounting bolts, then grasp the coils firmly and pull them out. Installation is the reverse of removal. 3.5L AND 3.9L V6 MODELS (COIL PACK TYPE) Start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. On 3.9L models, remove the engine cover and disconnect the MAP sensor. Then, disconnect the electrical connector from the coil pack. Label and then disconnect the spark plug wires from the coil pack. Next, remove the coil pack mounting bolts, then remove it. Coat the inside of each spark plug boot with dielectric silicone lubricant before installing them onto the coil pack. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal.
