Q:
How to check the fuse on Chevrolet Trailblazer and Buick Rainier? Posted by Customer
A:
The vehicle's electrical circuits are protected by a combination of fuses, circuit breakers, and fusible links. The main fuse/relay panel is located in the engine compartment, while the rear fuse/relay panel can be found beneath the left rear seat. Each fuse is designed to protect a specific circuit, and the fuse panel itself identifies the various circuits. There are small, medium, and large sizes of fuses, all with the same blade terminal design. The medium and large fuses can be removed by hand, while the small fuses require pliers or a fuse-puller tool. It is important to check the fuse first if an electrical component fails, using a test light to check for power at the exposed terminal tips. If power is present on one side of the fuse but not the other, the fuse is blown. Blown fuses can also be visually inspected. It is crucial to replace blown fuses with the correct type and rating. Fusible links are used in circuits that are not typically fused, such as the alternator circuit. The fusible link for the alternator circuit is located in the wire from the battery to the alternator and is easily identifiable. Fusible links cannot be repaired, but a new link of the same size wire can be installed by cutting out the damaged link, stripping the insulation, twisting and soldering the wires together, and using electrical tape to cover the joint. The negative battery cable should be connected and the circuit tested for proper operation.
