Q:
How do you remove fuel injectors and Fuel Rail on Buick LaCrosse? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the fuel injectors, first relieve the fuel system pressure and disconnect the negative terminal of the battery. On 3.6L engines, remove the upper intake manifold. Disconnect the fuel supply line at the fuel rail and the electrical connectors for the main fuel injector harness and each injector. Remove the fuel rail mounting fasteners and take out both fuel rails and their injectors as an assembly. Release the fuel injector retaining clips and remove each injector from its bore in the fuel rail, discarding the upper and lower O-rings. For 2010 and later models, disconnect the fuel supply line at the fuel rail and remove the intake manifold. Remove the fuel rail mounting bolts evenly to relieve pressure, then disconnect the electrical connector and the four fuel injector electrical connectors. Remove the fuel rail and injectors from the cylinder head, and use external snap-ring pliers to remove the retaining clip and each injector from the fuel rail. For V6 engines, disconnect the fuel supply line at the fuel rail and remove the intake manifold, foam insulator, fuel rail pressure sensor, and high-pressure fuel line. Remove the fuel rail mounting bolts and pry out the fuel rail and injectors from the cylinder head. Disconnect the injector harness and remove the retaining clip and each injector from the fuel rail. To install new injectors, coat the upper and lower O-rings with engine oil and slide them onto each injector. Insert each injector into its bore in the fuel rail and install the retaining clips. Install the injectors and fuel rail assembly onto the intake manifold, tightening the mounting bolts to the specified torque. The remaining installation steps are the reverse of removal. If a special tool is not available, the Teflon seal can be installed by working it onto a socket and sliding it onto the injector. After installation, install a new support ring and upper O-ring on each injector, clean the injector bores, and install a new compensation element and retaining ring on the bottom of each injector. Push each injector into its bore in the cylinder head, install a spring steel retainer, and then install the fuel rail, tightening the mounting bolts in the proper sequence and torque specifications. Finally, clean the high-pressure fuel line fittings and apply engine oil before installing the new high-pressure fuel line.
