Q:
How to remove and install knock sensors for Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
A:
Removal begins with disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. For 5.7L (LS1/LS6) engines, remove the intake manifold. Detach the grommets from the valley cover, pull the grommets up and disconnect the electrical connectors from the knock sensors. Unscrew the knock sensor(s). For 6.0L (LS2), 6.2L (LS3/LS9) and 7.0L (LS7) engines, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the engine compartment under-cover. The Bank 1 knock sensor is located on the left side of the engine block, just in front of the oil filter housing. The Bank 2 knock sensor is located on the right side of the engine block, just in front of the starter. Remove the exhaust manifold. Remove the upstream catalytic converter. Remove the bolt in the center of the knock sensor and remove the knock sensor. Disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor. For installation, it is the reverse of removal. Tighten the knock sensor or knock sensor bolt to the specific torque.

Q:
How to replace the knock sensors How to replace the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor on Chevrolet Trailblazer? Posted by Customer
A:
The knock sensors in the engine detect abnormal vibration and help reduce spark knock. They produce an AC output voltage that increases with the severity of the knock. The signal is sent to the PCM, which retards the timing to compensate for the detonation. The 4.2L six-cylinder engine has two knock sensors, with sensor 1 located towards the front and sensor 2 towards the rear. Premium or high octane fuel can affect the knock sensor system and cause false codes. To replace the knock sensors, disconnect the negative battery terminal, raise the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector and remove the sensor bolt. For V8 models from 2002 to 2004, remove the intake manifold and detach the grommets and electrical connector from the valley cover. Remove the knock sensors from the engine block. For V8 models from 2005 and later, disconnect the negative battery cable, raise the vehicle and support it on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the knock sensor from the right side of the cylinder block. Repeat for the left side.

Q:
How to remove a knock sensor on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the knock sensor on a vehicle, first loosen the left or right front wheel lug nuts on V8 models and raise the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the left or right front wheel on V8 models and the knock sensor heat shield retaining bolt on V6 models. If removing knock sensor 2 on a V8 model, also remove the right wheel well splash shield and starter motor. Disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor and remove the retaining bolt to take out the knock sensor. To install, reverse the removal steps and ensure the knock sensor retaining bolt is tightened to the proper torque specifications, as well as the wheel lug nuts.
