Q:
How to replace oxygen sensors in a Buick Enclave,Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia? Posted by Customer
A:
Be aware that oxygen sensors, installed in the exhaust manifold or pipe, can be difficult to loosen when the engine is cold due to contraction. To avoid damage, run the engine for a minute or two before shutting it off. Be careful not to burn yourself during this procedure. When servicing an oxygen sensor, be careful not to damage or remove the permanently attached pigtail and electrical connector, keep contaminants away from the electrical connector and the louvered end of the sensor, avoid using cleaning solvents, handle the sensor delicately, and ensure the silicone boot is correctly positioned to prevent melting and incorrect operation. To replace the sensor, note that there are four oxygen sensors; one in each exhaust manifold, and one just after each catalytic converter. For the upstream oxygen sensors, remove the engine cover, disconnect the upstream oxygen sensor electrical connector, remove the sensor, apply anti-seize compound to the threads if reinstalling the old sensor, and install the sensor securely. For the downstream oxygen sensors, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands, locate and disconnect the downstream oxygen sensor, unscrew the sensor, apply anti-seize compound to the threads if reinstalling the old sensor, and install the sensor securely.
