Q:
How to remove and install the rear stabilizer bar on Cadillac ElDorado and Fleetwood? Posted by Customer
A:
For the removal and installation of the Sway Bar on various Cadillac models, follow these steps: For the Deville and Fleetwood, begin by raising and safely supporting the vehicle, then remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies. Next, remove the Sway Bar link bolt, nut, retainer, and bushings from the Sway Bar bracket. Remove the link bolt and bend the open end of the link downward, allowing you to remove the Sway Bar and bushings. To install, insert the bushing into the link with the slit facing the rear of the vehicle, bend the link upward to close around the bushing, and install the link bolt. Finally, install the link bushings, retainers, support bolt, and nut, tightening the link nut to 13 ft. Ibs. (17 Nm) and the link bolt to 37 ft lbs. (50 Nm) on 1990-91 vehicles or 17 ft. Ibs. (23 Nm) on 1992-98 vehicles. For the Eldorado and Seville 1990-92 models, it's recommended to perform Sway Bar removal and installation with the vehicle on the ground and supported by the wheels. If necessary, use drive-on ramps or support the control arms with jacks as far outboard as possible. Start by raising and safely supporting the vehicle, then remove the Sway Bar attaching nut and bolt at the strut, as well as the stabilizer link bolt and nut at the suspension support. Remove the Sway Bar from the vehicle along with the stabilizer link and bushings if needed. To install, inspect the bushings for damage and replace if necessary, then install the bushings and links on the Sway bar. Position the Sway bar in the vehicle and install the bolts and nuts at the suspension support and strut, tightening the link bolt and stabilizer mounting nuts to 43 ft. Ibs. (58 Nm). For the Eldorado and Seville 1993-98 models, raise and safely support the vehicle, remove the rear wheel and tire assemblies, and then proceed to remove the stabilizer link lower bolt and upper nut on both sides of the vehicle. Remove the stabilizer brackets and bushings from the Sway bar. Lower and support the exhaust system at the rear of the vehicle, and then remove the Sway bar. To install, position the Sway Bar Kit in the vehicle, raise the exhaust system into position, and secure it. Position the bushings on the Sway bar and install the brackets. Install the link upper nuts and lower bolts, tightening the upper link nut to 38 ft lbs. (52 Nm) and the lower link bolt to 44 ft. Ibs. (60 Nm). Finally, tighten the stabilizer bracket bolt to 44 ft lbs. (60 Nm), install the wheel and tire assembly, and lower the vehicle.
