This system prevents the transmission from being shifted out of Park unless the key is turned On and the brake pedal is pressed. The vehicle is equipped with either a push or pull type of BTSI solenoid. The push-to-release type is attached to the passenger side of the shift lever assembly by a screw and has a harness attached, while the pull-to-release type clips into the passenger side of the shift lever assembly and has a connector. To remove the solenoid, the console extension panel needs to be removed first. For the push-to-release type, the solenoid can be removed by disconnecting the electrical connector terminal pins and removing the retaining screw. For the pull-to-release type, the electrical connector needs to be disconnected by depressing the connector lock tab, and then the solenoid can be released by pressing in on the tabs. The installation process is the reverse of removal, with attention to pressing the new solenoid into the shift lever assembly correctly and ensuring the solenoid connector is fully seated and locked.
