Q:
What is the importance of engine mounts in a Buick Enclave,Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia's driveline system? Posted by Customer
A:
Engine mounts are an important component of a vehicle's driveline system. While they typically do not require much attention, it is crucial to replace broken or deteriorated mounts immediately to prevent damage to other driveline components. During the inspection, the engine needs to be slightly raised to remove the weight from the mount. The vehicle should be securely supported on jackstands, and a jack should be placed under the engine oil pan with a block of wood in between. The engine should be raised just enough to relieve the weight on the mount, but the jack should not support the entire weight of the engine. The mount should be checked for cracked, hardened, or separated rubber, as well as any relative movement between the mount plates and the engine or frame. If movement is observed, the tightness of the mount fasteners should be checked before condemning the mount. When replacing the right-side (rear) mount, the engine cover needs to be removed, and the engine should be supported using an engine support fixture, engine hoist, or a floor jack with a block of wood under the oil pan. The upper and lower nuts from the mount should be removed, along with the upper nut from the front engine mount. If the vehicle is equipped with active engine mounts, the vacuum hose should be disconnected. The engine should be raised to remove the mount, and during installation, new fasteners should be used with thread-locking compound applied to the engine mount studs. If the strut mount insulator needs to be removed, the cooling system should be drained, and the right-side radiator hose should be detached from the water outlet tube. The underhood fuse/relay box should be removed, and the strut should be unscrewed from its brackets. If necessary, the strut mount insulator can be detached from its bracket. For the front mount, the front of the vehicle should be raised and securely supported on jackstands. The engine should be supported using an engine support fixture, engine hoist, or a floor jack with a block of wood under the oil pan. The upper nut from the right-side (rear) mount and the upper and lower nuts from the front mount should be removed. The engine should be raised to remove the mount, and during installation, new fasteners should be used with thread-locking compound applied to the engine mount studs.
