Finally, separate the control arm from the steering knuckle and try to twist the stud in the socket using your fingers. If the stud turns, it is necessary to replace the balljoint.

Then, use a prybar to test for excessive movement between the balljoint and steering knuckle. Additionally, have an assistant move the top of the tire in and out while checking for movement at the balljoint stud nut. If excessive movement is detected, the balljoint may be worn. To replace the balljoint, begin by marking the position of the control arm. Then, remove the wheel, cotter pin, and castle nut to separate the balljoint from the steering knuckle. Next, remove the control arm from the subframe. For installation, drill out the rivets securing the old balljoint, clean the control arm, and install the new balljoint using the provided fasteners. Tighten the balljoint fasteners to the specified torque. Finally, reattach the control arm to the subframe and secure the ball stud into the steering knuckle with a new cotter pin.

Finally, remove the balljoint stud nut.
