What is the Procedure for Removing and Installing a Compressor or Refrigerant Line Mounted Switch? Posted by Customer

To remove and install a switch mounted on the back of the compressor, disconnect the negative battery cable, properly discharge the air conditioning system into a recovery/recycling machine, remove the coupled hose assembly at the rear of the compressor, unplug the electrical connector, remove the switch retaining ring using internal snap-ring pliers, remove the switch from the compressor, discard the 0-ring, lubricate a new 0-ring with refrigerant oil, insert into the switch cavity, lubricate the control switch housing with clean refrigerant oil and insert the switch until it bottoms in the cavity, install the switch retaining snap-ring with the high point of the curved sides adjacent to the switch housing, ensure that the retaining ring is properly seated in the switch cavity retaining groove, engage the electrical connector, lubricate new coupled hose assembly 0-rings with refrigerant oil, install on the hose assembly fittings, connect the coupled hose assembly to the compressor, connect the negative battery cable, tighten the cable bolt to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm), evacuate, recharge and leak test the system, operate the system to ensure proper operation and leak test the switch, reset the radio, clock and any other applicable electronic devices. To remove and install a switch mounted on the refrigerant line, disconnect the negative battery cable, unplug the electrical connector, remove the switch from the coupled hose assembly, discard the 0-ring, lubricate a new 0-ring with refrigerant oil, install the 0-ring on the switch and install the switch, engage the electrical connector, connect the negative battery cable, tighten the cable bolt to 11 ft. lbs. (15 Nm), reset the radio, clock and any other applicable electronic devices.
