To remove the power brake booster unit, it is recommended not to disassemble it due to its complexity and critical relationship to brake performance. Instead, it is best to replace a defective booster unit with a new or rebuilt one. Start by unbolting the brake master cylinder from the booster and carefully move it forward to create clearance for booster removal, ensuring not to kink the brake lines. If there is not enough slack in the lines, they will need to be removed from the master cylinder. Disconnect the vacuum hose fitting from the power brake booster and locate the pushrod clevis pin under the dash that connects the booster to the brake pedal. Remove the retaining clip and spacer, if applicable, and slide the pushrod off its peg on the brake pedal. Remove the mounting nuts holding the brake booster to the firewall and slide the booster straight out from the firewall until the studs clear the holes, then remove it from the engine compartment. For installation, simply reverse the removal steps. If the fluid lines were detached from the master cylinder, it is important to bleed the hydraulic system.

Remove the retaining clip and spacer, if applicable, and slide the pushrod off its peg on the brake pedal.
