- A:Start by cutting off the boot retaining clamps and sliding the housing off the spider assembly. Move the boot toward the center of the drive axle, mark the relationship of the tri-pot assembly to the outer race, spread the ends of the stop-ring apart and slide it towards the center of the shaft. Slide the spider assembly back to expose the retaining ring and pry it off. Remove the spider from the drive axle, making sure to hold the bearings in place using tape or a cloth if necessary. If the spider sticks to the shaft, gently tap it off with a hammer and brass punch. Finally, slide off the stop-ring and boot from the axle shaft, clean the housing and spider assembly, and replace any worn bearings or components as needed.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
