On some early models, an auxiliary oil cooler is provided for the automatic transaxle fluid. The cooler looks like a small radiator and is mounted in front of the engine radiator and air conditioning condenser, just behind the grille. Transaxle fluid flow comes from the transaxle to the auxiliary cooler through the transaxle fluid output line, and then from the auxiliary cooler to the standard cooler in the right-hand tank of the radiator. To remove the cooler, place a drain pan under the cooler to catch the fluid and detach the lower fluid line from the cooler. When no more fluid comes out, detach the upper fluid line. Remove the mounting screws at the upper radiator support, and the lower support bracket and remove the cooler. Installation is the reverse of removal. If necessary, for better access to the lower cooler line on the front side of the transaxle, remove the air filter housing. Place a drain pan under the cooler lines to catch the fluid. Remove the retaining bolt for the upper cooler line bracket from the fan shroud. Unsnap the plastic collar from the quick-connect fittings, then pry off the quick-connect fitting retaining clips and remove the lines. Remove the two bolts attaching the upper cooler line brackets to the transaxle. Disconnect the upper transaxle cooler line from the rear of the transaxle. Disconnect the lower cooler line from the transaxle. The remainder of installation is the reverse of removal, noting the following points: Tighten all fasteners and fittings securely. On later models with quick/connect fittings, push the upper cooler line into the quick connect fitting until a audible Click is heard. Gently pull on the line to ensure a proper connection. Slide the plastic sleeve over the fitting. Check the transaxle fluid level.
