Q:
How to remove the front and rear heater cores on Cadillac Escalade? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the front heater core, start by discharging the air conditioning system and disconnecting the battery. Remove the battery and tray, then drain the cooling system and detach the air conditioning lines from the evaporator core fittings. Disconnect the heater hoses from the engine side of the firewall and remove the intake manifold and dash. Disconnect the drain tube and support the heating/air conditioning unit with a block of wood inside the vehicle. Remove the fasteners securing the unit to the firewall from the engine compartment, then remove the electrical connectors and ground straps. Lift the unit out of the vehicle and remove the temperature valve actuator. Use a drill bit to remove the melted plastic stakes on the heater core/evaporator core cover. Disconnect the control module harness connectors and remove the blower motor control module. Finally, remove the heater core cover and carefully lift out the heater core. For installation, reverse the removal steps, refill the cooling system, and have the air conditioning system charged. To remove the rear (auxiliary) heater core, start by removing the right rear quarter trim panel. Detach the air conditioning lines from the rear evaporator core fittings and clamp off the heater hoses leading to the rear heater core. Disconnect the hoses from the inlet and outlet fittings and remove the upper auxiliary air duel. Remove the lower mounting nuts from under the vehicle and disconnect the electrical connectors and wiring harness. Unscrew the mounting upper screws and remove the housing from the vehicle. On long wheelbase models, remove the heater core cover, and on short wheelbase models, remove the blower/heater core case. Finally, remove the heater core from the housing. For installation, reverse the removal steps, check the coolant level, and start the engine to check for proper operation. Recheck the coolant level and have the air conditioning system charged.
