Q:
How to perform a transmission fluid and Transmission Filter replacement on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe and GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali,Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
A:
At the specified maintenance intervals, it's important to perform a transmission fluid replacement. Only initiate this procedure after the engine has completely cooled down. Prepare by acquiring the necessary tools: transmission fluid, a new filter, and pan gasket. You'll also need a floor jack, jackstands for secure vehicle support, a drain pan with adequate capacity, newspapers, and clean rags. Elevate the vehicle and secure it on jackstands, removing the front section of the exhaust system if it obstructs pan removal. Position the drain pan beneath the transmission pan, remove the drain plug if present, allow the fluid to drain until it barely trickles, and then reinsert the plug. If there's no drain plug, take out the bolts from three sides of the pan, partially loosen the remaining bolts, and lower the pan to drain most of the fluid. Afterward, remove the bolts, carefully lower the pan, and drain the remaining fluid. To access the pan bolts on the right side, eliminate the heat shield near the catalytic converter. On the driver's side, remove the shift linkage to access the pan bolts. Undo the transmission pan mounting bolts and gently pry the pan loose with a screwdriver. Thoroughly clean the transmission's gasket surface to eliminate any remnants of the old gasket and sealant. Clean and dry the pan, remove the filter from the valve body inside the transmission, and install a new seal and filler, if necessary. Ensure the transmission pan's gasket surface is clean, then attach a new gasket and install the pan against the transmission, securing all bolts. Tighten each bolt gradually to the specified torque. Reinstall components removed for pan bolt access, lower the vehicle, and add about 4 quarts of the specified automatic transmission fluid through the filler tube. With the engine running at a fast idle and the transmission in Park, cycle the gear selector through each range and back to Park before letting the engine idle. Check the fluid level, which is likely to be low, and add fluid as needed to reach the proper mark on the dipstick, avoiding overfilling. Lastly, inspect for leaks under the vehicle during initial trips and recheck the fluid level when the transmission is hot.

Q:
What steps should be followed to remove the transmission pan for the 1995 Chevrolet C1500? Posted by Customer
A:
Once the transmission is raised, insert a small wood block between the mount and crossmember. Place the drain pan underneath the transmission pan. Remove the front and side pan mounting bolts, but only loosen the rear pan bolts approximately four turns. Carefully pry the transmission pan loose with a screwdriver, allowing the fluid to drain. Remove the remaining bolts, pan, and gasket.
