- Q:How to replace driveaxle oil seals to prevent oil leaks? Posted by Customer
- A:Wheel leaks frequently occur due to wear of the wheel seals, which are located on the sides of the transaxle where the driveaxles are attached. If leakage is suspected, the vehicle should be raised and securely supported on jackstands to inspect for fluid on the sides of the transaxle. To replace the seals, the driveaxles need to be removed and the old seals can be pried out of the transaxle using a screwdriver or prybar, taking care not to damage the aluminum bore. If necessary, a special wheel seal removal tool may be required. The new seal should be compared to the old one to ensure it is the correct one, and then coated with a small amount of transmission fluid on the outside and inside diameters. Using a seal installation tool, the new wheel seal should be driven into the bore squarely and seated to the original depth. Finally, the driveaxles can be reinstalled and the transaxle fluid level should be checked and topped up as necessary.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
