Q:
How to remove and replace an output shaft seal on Chevrolet Tahoe and Chevrolet Avalanche? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove and replace a transfer case seal on a vehicle, first raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the skid plate and, depending on which seal you're replacing, remove either the front or rear driveshaft. To remove the seal, simply pry it out with a screwdriver or seal removal tool, being careful not to damage the seal bore. When installing the new seal, lubricate the lips with petroleum jelly and drive it into place with a seal driver or large socket. The outside diameter of the socket should be slightly smaller than the outside diameter of the seal. Finally, reassemble the vehicle in the reverse order of removal.

Q:
How to replace the extension housing oil seal in GMC Canyon? Posted by Customer
A:
Oil leaks frequently occur due to wear of the extension housing oil seal, but fortunately, replacing this seal is relatively easy and can be done without removing the transmission from the vehicle. The extension housing oil seal is located at the rear of the transmission where the driveshaft is attached. If there is suspicion of leakage at the seal, the vehicle should be raised and securely supported on jackstands. If the seal is indeed leaking, transmission lubricant will be built up on the front of the driveshaft and may be dripping from the rear of the transmission. To replace the seal, the driveshaft needs to be removed first. Then, using a seal removal tool or a large screwdriver, the old oil seal should be carefully pried out of the rear of the transmission, taking care not to damage the splines on the transmission output shaft. Next, a seal driver or a large deep socket can be used as a drift to install the new oil seal, ensuring it is driven into the bore squarely and completely seated. Before reinstalling the driveshaft, it is important to lubricate the splines of the transmission output shaft and the outside of the driveshaft yoke with lightweight grease. Finally, the driveshaft can be installed, being careful not to damage the lip of the new seal.
