- A:The Throttle Position (TP) Sensor is a potentiometer connected to the throttle shaft on the throttle body, providing a voltage signal that changes with the throttle blade angle. The PCM calculates throttle position based on this signal, and fuel delivery is adjusted accordingly. Testing involves checking the connector for damage, measuring voltage at Terminal B (around 0.5 volts), smoothly operating the throttle to WOT (voltage should follow without exceeding 5 volts), and checking for proper ground and 5-volt reference signals. Removal of the TP sensor requires disconnecting the negative battery cable, removing the air cleaner, TP sensor connector, and TP sensor mounting bolts, followed by installing a new 0-ring on the TP sensor and reassembling. For the 4.6L engine, the throttle body assembly must be removed, and then the TP sensor can be detached, with the 0-ring discarded and a new one installed before reassembly.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
