Q:
How do I remove and replace the CKP sensor in a Chevrolet Corvette? Posted by Customer
A:
Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. Raise the front of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the starter motor. Disconnect the electrical connector from the CKP sensor, which is on the right rear of the engine block. Remove the CKP sensor mounting bolt and remove the CKP sensor. Remove and inspect the sensor O-ring. If it's cut, torn or otherwise deteriorated, replace it. Lubricate the sensor O-ring with clean engine oil. Installation is otherwise the reverse of removal.

Q:
What should you do if the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) is illuminated after installing the CKP sensor for the 1999 Chevrolet Express? Posted by Customer
A:
If the MIL is illuminated after installation, it may indicate a Diagnostic Trouble Code (OTC) related to the CKP system variation not learned. In this case, a dealer technician can perform the necessary procedure to relearn the variation between the CKP and CMP sensors and clear the OTC from the PCM's memory.

Q:
How to replace the CKP sensor for Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
A:
The CKP sensor is located on the back-side (firewall side) of the engine block for both V6 and V8 models. If the Malfunction Indicator Light (MIL) comes on after replacing the CKP sensor and starting the engine, drive the vehicle to a dealer and have the service department perform a crank-shaft position variation team procedure with a factory scan tool. To replace the sensor, raise the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the electrical connector from the CKP sensor. Remove the CKP sensor mounting bolt. Remove and discard the old CKP sensor 0-ring. Always install the sensor with a new 0-ring, even if you're installing the old sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to use a new 0-ring and tighten the CKP sensor mounting bolt securely. For V8 models, the CKP sensor is located near the flywheel. Remove the rear exhaust manifold. To remove the CKP sensor from a V8 engine, disconnect the electrical connector and remove the sensor mounting bolt. Remove the CKP sensor mounting bolt and remove the CKP sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the CKP sensor mounting bolt securely.
