To remove the knock sensor on a vehicle, first loosen the left or right front wheel lug nuts on V8 models and raise the front of the vehicle on jackstands. Remove the left or right front wheel on V8 models and the knock sensor heat shield retaining bolt on V6 models. If removing knock sensor 2 on a V8 model, also remove the right wheel well splash shield and starter motor. Disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor and remove the retaining bolt to take out the knock sensor. To install, reverse the removal steps and ensure the knock sensor retaining bolt is tightened to the proper torque specifications, as well as the wheel lug nuts.

There are two knock sensors, one for each side of the block. They're located in the upper middle part of each side of the block, right below the exhaust manifolds. For V6 models, raise the front of the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. If you're removing the knock sensor from the rear cylinder bank(bank 1) on a 3.9L V6 engine, remove the catalytic converter. Disconnect the electrical connector from the knock sensor. To detach either of the knock sensors on a V6, disconnect the electrical connector, then remove the retaining bolt. Remove the knock sensor retaining bolt and remove the knock sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the knock sensor retaining bolt. For V8 models, drain the cooling system. Raise the front of the vehicle and place it securely on jackstands. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector. To remove a knock sensor on a V8 engine, disconnect the electrical connector, then remove the retaining bolt. Remove the knock sensor retaining boll and remove the knock sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to tighten the knock sensor retaining bolt. Refill the cooling system.

If you're working on a 3.0L or 3.6L V6 model, remove the starter motor. For 2013 and later 3.6L models, the left-side knock sensor is located between the oil filter and the starter motor. If you're removing a knock sensor from the rear of the engine, remove the right catalytic converter. Next, disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector. Finally, unscrew the knock sensor retaining bolt and detach the sensor from the engine block. To install the knock sensor, simply reverse the removal steps and be sure to tighten the bolt to the specified torque.
