Q:
How do you remove the steering wheel? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the steering wheel, start by parking the vehicle with the wheels pointing straight ahead and disconnecting the negative terminal of the battery. If the vehicle has an airbag system, disable it. On models without an airbag, the horn pad is attached to the steering wheel with clips or screws. On 1995 and earlier airbag-equipped models, remove the four screws from the backside of the steering wheel. On 1996 and later models, turn the steering wheel 90 degrees to access the holes in the backside of the steering wheel and use a screwdriver to push aside the four spring clips and release the pins. For airbag-equipped models, carefully lift the airbag module away from the steering wheel and disconnect the yellow airbag electrical connector. Remove the module. Remove the horn plunger and the steering wheel retaining nut, marking the position of the steering wheel to the shaft if necessary. Use a puller to detach the steering wheel from the shaft and then disconnect the horn and ground connectors before removing the steering wheel. To install the steering wheel, follow the reverse steps. For airbag-equipped models, ensure the SIR coil is centered and connect the airbag connector with the plastic locking device in place. Tighten the steering wheel nut and airbag screws to the specified torque.
