Q:
How to remove and install wiper arms and Wiper Blade in Cadillac ElDorado and Fleetwood? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove and install wiper arms in Cadillac DeVille and Fleetwood vehicles, start by raising the hood for access. Operate the wipers and turn off the ignition when they are at the mid-wipe position. Lift the wiper arm away from the windshield. For 1990 vehicles, pull the retaining latch and remove the arm from the transmission shaft. For 1991-up vehicles, use a suitable tool to disengage the retaining latch and remove the arm from the transmission shaft. To install, put the wiper arm back onto the transmission shaft and push the retaining latch in, then return the arm to the windshield. If adjustment is needed, follow these steps:Remove the right wiper arm.Open the small door to access the wiper linkage.Loosen, but don't remove, the transmission linkage adjustment nuts.Rotate the left arm and blade assembly just below the blade stops. For 1990 vehicles, tighten the transmission adjustment screws to 64 inch lbs.For 1991 vehicles, tighten the transmission linkage adjustment nuts to 44 inch lbs.For 1992-up vehicles, tighten the transmission linkage adjustment nuts to 71 inch lbs.Position the right wiper arm and blade assembly below the blade stops and install the arm onto the transmission shaft.Lift both arm and blade assemblies over the stops.Check the wiper pattern and park position with the windshield wet and wipers operating at low speed. For Eldorado and Seville early models, operate the wipers and turn off the ignition when they are at the mid-wipe position. Detach the hose on the wiper arm from the hose connector. Lift the wiper arm from the windshield and pull the retaining latch. Remove the arm from the transmission shaft. To install, put the arm on the transmission shaft, push in the retaining latch, and return the arm to the windshield. Attach the hose on the wiper arm to the hose connector. If adjustment is needed, raise the hood and remove the wiper arms. Open the transmission adjustment window on the left side of the cowl vent screen. Loosen the transmission drive link-to-motor crank arm attaching screws, position the left arm and blade assembly to the transmission shaft, align the slot in the arm to the key-way, and push the arm down to engage the slide latch. Rotate the left arm assembly to a position one inch below the ramp stop. Tighten the attaching screws on the transmission link-to-motor crank arm to 4 ft lbs. While the left arm assembly is still below the ramp stop, position the right arm and blade assembly to the transmission shaft approximately one inch below the ramp stop. Push the arm down and engage the slide latch. Close the adjustment window and place the arm assemblies on the ramp stop on the vent screen. Check the wiper pattern and park position as specified. For Eldorado and Seville late models, turn the ignition ON and place the wipers in the park position, then turn off the ignition. Detach the washer hose from the hose connector and remove the protective cap. Lift the wiper arm and insert a suitable pin or pop rivet through the 2 holes next to the pivot of the arm. Remove the wiper arm retaining nut, lift the arm from the shaft using a rocking motion, and clean the knurls of the shaft with a suitable wire brush if necessary. To install, connect the washer hose, install the wiper arm one inch below the park ramp, remove the pivot prevention pin, install a new wiper arm retaining nut, lift the wiper arm over the park ramp, and install the wiper blade. Tighten the nut to the specified torque. Operate the wipers and check for the correct wipe pattern, ensuring that the left-hand blade tip wipes as instructed and that the right-hand blade overlaps the left-hand wipe pattern. Finally, install the protective cap.

Q:
What should be inspected periodically for damage, loose components, and cracked or worn blade elements for Chevrolet Beretta? Posted by Customer
A:
The windshield wiper and blade assembly should be inspected periodically for damage, loose components and cracked or worn blade elements. Road film can build up on the wiper blades and affect their efficiency, so they should be washed regularly with a mild detergent solution. The action of the wiping mechanism can loosen the bolts, nuts and fasteners, so they should be checked and tightened, as necessary, at the same time the wiper blades are checked. If the wiper blade elements, sometimes called inserts, are cracked, worn or warped, they should be replaced with new ones. To do this, remove the wiper blade assembly from the wiper arm by inserting a small screwdriver into the opening and gently prying on the spring while pulling on the blade to release it. With the blade removed from the vehicle, you can remove the rubber element from the blade. Using pliers, pinch the metal backing of the element, then slide the element out of the blade assembly. Compare the new element with the old for length, design, etc. Slide the new element into place. It will automatically lock at the correct location. Finally, reinstall the blade assembly on the arm, wet the windshield glass and test for proper operation.
