Q:
How do I remove Suspension Arm for 2009 and earlier Buick LaCrosse? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove Trailing Arm 1, start by loosening the rear wheel lug nuts and blocking the front wheels. Then, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels and the rear portion of the exhaust system. Detach the stabilizer bar link from the stabilizer bar and remove the ABS wiring harness clips from the arm if equipped. Remove the mounting fasteners for both trailing arms at the rear knuckle and detach both arms from the knuckle. Detach the hydraulic brake line from the top of the rear suspension support and place a floor jack beneath the rear suspension support. Raise it until it just contacts the support at its center. Remove the mounting bolts for the rear suspension support on the same side that the arm is being removed from and loosen the mounting bolts on the opposite side of the support. Slowly lower the rear suspension support with the floor jack to get access to the trailing arm's mounting fasteners. Place a jack stand under the rear suspension support and remove the floor jack. Remove the mounting fasteners that hold the trailing arm to the rear suspension support and inspect the trailing arm bushings for signs of deterioration. If needed, take the arm to have the bushings replaced. For Trailing Arm 2, follow the same steps as Trailing Arm 1. To remove the Trailing Arm, remove the trailing arm bracket-to-body mounting bolts and the trailing arm-to-knuckle mounting fasteners. Then, remove the trailing arm and inspect the trailing arm bushing for signs of deterioration. If needed, have the bushing replaced.
