- A:To replace the belt, first disconnect the cable from the negative terminal of the battery. Rotate the tensioner (clockwise on 2.0/2.2-liter four-cylinder engines, counterclockwise on V6 and 2.3-liter Quad-4 engines) to release belt tension. Remove the belt from the auxiliary components and carefully release the tensioner.
