To remove the front cable, start by removing the rear console trim to access the parking brake handle mechanism. Then, remove the cable nut from the handbrake lever and push the cable and housing assembly through the floor pan. Raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Pull the cable housing out of the L-shaped guide above the rear of the exhaust pipe heat shield and maneuver the cable out of the wire bracket at the left rear suspension pivot. Slide the cable housing out of the equalizer and disconnect the cable from the cable joiner. To install, reverse the removal procedure and refer to the cable adjustment procedure. For the left cable, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Loosen the equalizer adjusting screw and disconnect the left cable from the equalizer. Disconnect the cable housing at the frame mounting bracket and remove the brake drum and brake shoes. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the lever and depress the tangs on the cable housing retainer to push the cable and housing out through the backing plate. To install, reverse the removal procedure and adjust the cable. For the right cable, raise the rear of the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove tension at the equalizer to remove the cable from the cable joiner. Disconnect the cable housing at the frame mounting bracket and remove the brake drum and brake shoes. Disconnect the parking brake cable from the lever and depress the tangs on the cable housing retainer to push the cable and housing out through the backing plate. To install, reverse the removal procedure and adjust the cable.
