To remove the latch assembly, start by scribing a line around the latch to aid in alignment during reinstallation. Then, remove the latch retaining bolts securing it to the radiator support and detach the hood release cable from the back of the latch assembly. For installation, simply reverse the removal process. To remove the cable, detach it from the latch after removing it, and then detach the cable from all its retaining clips in the engine compartment. You may need to cut some clips to free the cable. Attach a length of wire to the cable to assist with the installation of the new cable. In the passenger compartment, remove the driver's kick panel to expose the hood latch release cable and handle. Remove the screws and detach the hood release cable and handle assembly from the driver's left side hinge pillar. Pull the cable through the firewall grommet into the passenger compartment. Disconnect the guide wire from the old cable and fasten it to the new cable. To install the new cable, attach it to the wire and pull it back through the firewall until it reaches the latch assembly. The rest of the installation is the reverse of removal, ensuring that the latch seats properly in the firewall.
