- A:The negative and positive battery cables are part of a single assembly and cannot be replaced individually. It is important to periodically inspect the cables for damage, cracked insulation, and corrosion. Check the cable-to-terminal connections for cracks, loose wire strands, and corrosion. If there are white, fluffy deposits under the insulation, the cable should be replaced. When replacing the cables, disconnect the instrument panel electrical connector from the battery current sensor and disconnect the negative cable from the negative battery post first. Note the routing of the cables for correct installation. Disconnect the old cables from the battery terminals and disconnect the rest of the cable assembly. Remove any electrical tape or cable ties to access the smaller cables. Replace the cable assembly with an identical one and clean the threads of the starter solenoid and ground connection. Attach the lower ends of the cables first, then connect the upper ends. Reattach the cables to the harness with new cable ties or electrical tape. Install all locator pins and positioning clips.
