Q:
How do I remove the Brake Calipers? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the front brakes, start by loosening the lug nuts on the front wheels, but don't remove them completely. Then, raise the front of the vehicle and secure it on jackstands. Remove the front wheels. Disconnect the brake line from the caliper and plug it to prevent contaminants from entering the brake system and to minimize brake fluid loss. For calipers without Brembo, remove the caliper guide pin bolts and detach the caliper from its mounting bracket. For models with Brembo calipers, remove the two caliper mounting bolts and detach the caliper from the steering knuckle. To install the caliper, reverse the removal procedure, ensuring to replace the copper sealing washers on the brake line fitting. Tighten the caliper guide pin bolts and brake line banjo fitting bolt to the specified torque. Bleed the brake system, install the wheels and lug nuts, and lower the vehicle, tightening the lug nuts to the specified torque. For rear brake removal, follow a similar process. Loosen the lug nuts on the rear wheels, raise the rear of the vehicle, and secure it on jackstands. Remove the rear wheels. Inside the vehicle, remove the boot around the parking brake handle and loosen the adjuster nut for the parking brake cable. Disconnect the parking brake cable end from the caliper lever and detach the cable from the caliper bracket. Depress the caliper piston with a C-clamp, unscrew the brake line banjo fitting, and detach the brake line from the caliper, plugging it to prevent contamination. Use an open-end wrench to hold the flats on the caliper guide pins while removing the guide pin bolt. Detach the caliper from its mounting bracket. To install the caliper, reverse the removal procedure, tightening the caliper guide pin bolts and brake line banjo fitting bolt to the specified torque. Bleed the brake system, install the wheels and lug nuts, lower the vehicle, and tighten the lug nuts to the specified torque. Finally, adjust the parking brake.
