To remove the air conditioning system, start by discharging the system and disconnecting the negative battery terminal. Then, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the drivebelt(s) and, on 5.7L models, drain the cooling system and remove the water pump. On 6.0L, 6.2L, and 7.0L models, support the engine from above and lower the front subframe to access the mounting bolts. Disconnect the electrical connector from the compressor clutch field coil and remove the compressor inlet and outlet line mounting bolt, along with the lines from the compressor. Remove the old O-ring and then remove the compressor mounting bolts/nut, mounting stud, and the compressor itself. For installation, if a new compressor is being installed, follow the instructions that came with it regarding draining excess oil. The clutch may need to be transferred from the original to the new compressor. Balance the compressor oil and replace all O-rings before reconnecting the inlet and outlet lines, lubricating them with refrigerant oil. The installation process is the reverse of removal.To balance the oil, remove the drain plug from the old compressor and allow the oil to drain into a graduated container. Tilt the compressor to ensure both ports drain into the same container. Record the amount of oil drained and add it to any amount measured during system evacuation. If the total drained oil is less than 2.5 oz (75 ml), no balancing is needed. Install the compressor and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested. If the drained oil is more than 2.5 oz (75 ml), oil needs to be added. To balance the system, subtract 2.5 oz (75 ml) from the drained oil amount and add the difference to the new compressor. Install the compressor and have the system evacuated, recharged, and leak tested.
