Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal. With the parking brake on and the wheels blocked, shift the transmission into Neutral. On models with a manual transaxle, unscrew the shift knob, then pry up the front of the shifter boot and remove the shifter boot from the lever. On Cobalt/GS models, pry out the bezel around the shifter. Use a trim tool to pry up the trim panel around the parking brake handle. Remove the top trim plate and disconnect the electrical connectors underneath. Disconnect the electrical connectors for the two power outlets. Carefully remove the left and right side panels. Remove the screws securing the rear armrest section of the console. Remove the screws at the front and lift off the main console panel. On HHR models, use a trim tool to pry out the switch panel and disconnect the electrical connectors. Pry up on the cup holder to remove the storage compartment. Pry out the bezel around the shifter. Remove the top trim plate screws and pry up the panel. Carefully remove the left and right side panels. Pry out the trim panel around the console and lift off the main console panel. For the rear console, pry up the cup holder next to the parking brake handle. Pry up and remove the top trim plate. Remove the mounting fasteners securing the rear of the console. Remove the mounting fasteners securing the front of the console. Disconnect the electrical connector for the power outlet at the rear of the panel and lift off the rear console. On ION models, pry up the center accessory trim panel. Remove the top trim plate. Carefully remove the left and right side panels. Squeeze the boot around the parking brake handle and remove the boot. Remove the screws securing the rear armrest section of the console. Remove the screws at the front and lift off the main console panel. Installation is the reverse of removal. Reconnect the battery.
