At specified intervals, both the air filter and PCV filter require replacement, with occasional inspections recommended in between changes. The air filter is situated within the air cleaner housing atop the engine. To access it, remove the filter by unscrewing the top plate's wing nut and lifting off the plate. Take note of any connected vacuum hoses and disconnect them if present. Exercise caution to prevent debris from falling into the carburetor when the top plate is off. Lift out the air filter for inspection, and if light easily passes through the filter element, it can be reused; otherwise, replace it. Ensure the interior of the housing is clean before reinstallation. Place either the old, undamaged filter or a new one, depending on the interval, back into the housing, ensuring proper seating. Reconnect any vacuum hoses to the top plate and secure it with the wing nut. For most cars, the PCV filter is also housed within the air cleaner. Remove the top plate as previously described, and locate the PCV filter on the housing's side. Loosen the hose clamp on the PCV hose connected to the filter, disconnect the hose, and remove the metal locking clip securing the filter holder to the air cleaner housing. Remove the filter and plastic holder from inside the air cleaner, compare the new filter to the old one for compatibility, and install the new filter assembly. Reconnect the PCV hose, tighten the clamp, reinstall the air cleaner top plate along with any disconnected vacuum hoses. In some engines, the PCV filter may be situated within the PCV hose rather than the air cleaner. To replace it, locate the hose leading into the air cleaner housing, follow it to the filter, disconnect the hose, and insert a replacement filter into the hose.

When replacing the air filter, especially when the filter housing cover is off, be careful not to drop anything down into the throttle body or air cleaner assembly. It's essential to maintain a clean and debris-free environment during the replacement process.
