Remove the fuel filler cap to eliminate the residual pressure from the fuel system, then reinstall it. The fuel filter is located on the firewall, below the brake master cylinder. Release the hose clamps at the filter fittings and slide them back up the hoses. Detach the filter from the bracket and disconnect the hoses. Loosen the clamps, detach the hoses, then use a screwdriver to disconnect the filter from the bracket. Now would be a good time to replace the hoses if they're deteriorated. Push the hoses onto the new filter and position the clamps approximately 1/4-inch back from the ends. Push the filter back into the bracket. Check to make sure it's held securely and the hoses aren't kinked. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks at the filter. For fuel-injected engines, the fuel filter is located under the rear of the vehicle at the left front corner of the fuel tank. Disconnect the negative battery cable, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. Place a metal drain pan under the filter. Slide back the hose clamps, then disconnect the fuel filter inlet and outlet hoses. Remove the bolts and detach the filter from the vehicle. Remove the bracket and transfer it to the new filter. Attach the bracket to the new filter; be sure to line up the match marks. Install the fuel filter and bracket assembly. Tighten the bolts securely. Connect the inlet and outlet hoses. Start the engine and check for fuel leaks at the filter.
