The installation process for both the air intake duct and air filter housing is the reverse of the removal process.

To remove the air intake duct, start by loosening the hose clamp screws at the air filter box and turbocharger or air intake resonator. If you have a 2016 or later model (except Malibu Limited), remove the PCV vent hose from the duct. Carefully pull the intake duct from the throttle body or resonator and air filter box. For 1.5L models, set the duct to the side with the PCV hose still attached. To install, simply reverse the removal steps. For the removal of the air intake resonator on 2015 and earlier models or 2016 Malibu Limited, remove the air intake duct first. Then, remove the bolt attaching the resonator to the engine and loosen the clamp attaching the resonator hose to the throttle body. Pull the resonator up and disconnect the PCV hose from the resonator or valve cover. Finally, remove the resonator from the vehicle. The installation process is the reverse of removal. To remove the air filter box, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative terminal of the battery and removing the air intake duct. Detach the electrical connector from the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor and firmly pull the air filter box up and out of its grommets. If equipped, disconnect the secondary air injection hose. The installation process is the reverse of removal.
