Q:
How do you remove the Steering Knuckle of 4WD Chevrolet Blazer,S10,GMC Jimmy and Sonoma? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the vehicle's driveaxle/hub, start by putting the vehicle in gear, applying the parking brake, and breaking loose the driveaxle/hub nut with a socket and large breaker bar. Then, loosen the wheel lug nuts, raise the front of the vehicle, and support it securely on jackstands. Remove the wheel and the driveaxle/hub nut. Next, unbolt the brake caliper, hang it out of the way with a piece of wire, and remove the brake disc. Disconnect the tie-rod end from the steering knuckle and support the lower control arm with a floor jack. Detach the steering knuckle from the lower ball joint and support the steering knuckle while separating it from the upper ball joint. Use a puller to push the driveaxle out of the hub while withdrawing the steering knuckle and hub assembly. If you plan to replace the hub and bearing assembly or the knuckle, remove the hub and bearing assembly from the knuckle. Finally, inspect the seal on the rear side of the knuckle and replace it if necessary by driving in a new seal with a socket that has a slightly smaller outside diameter. To install the driveaxle/hub, simply reverse the removal procedure, making sure to lubricate the driveaxle splines with multi-purpose grease and tighten all fasteners to the specified torque.
