How to remove and install the Ignition Control Module on Buick Century and Regal? Posted by Customer
A:
Remove the distributor cap and rotor. Disconnect the harness connector and pick-up coil spade connectors from the Ignition Control Module, being careful not to damage the wires when removing the connector. Remove the two screws and Ignition Control Module from the distributor housing. To install, coat the bottom of the new Ignition Control Module with dielectric lubricant supplied with the new module. Install the Ignition Control Module, and secure in place with the retainer screws. Attach the harness to the Ignition Control Module. Install the distributor cap and rotor.

Q:
Is it necessary to remove the distributor from the engine to replace the ignition module for Pontiac Fiero? Posted by Customer
A:
It is not necessary to remove the distributor from the engine to replace the Ignition Control Module. To remove, first remove the distributor cap and rotor. Then, remove both module mounting screws and detach the module from the distributor. The Ignition Control Module is secured by two mounting screws. Disconnect both electrical leads from the module. Note that the leads cannot be interchanged. Do not wipe the grease from the module or the distributor base if the same module is to be reinstalled. If a new module is to be installed, a package of silicone grease will be included with it. Wipe the distributor base and the new module clean, then apply the silicone grease to the face of the module and the distributor base where the module seats. Silicone lubricant applied to the distributor base in the area under the Ignition Control Module dissipates heat. This is a distributor with a separately mounted coil (four-cylinder engine). This is the base of a distributor with the coil mounted in the cap-the Ignition Control Module also needs a thin layer of silicone lubricant for cooling. This grease is necessary for heat dissipation. The module cannot be tested without a module tester. If you suspect that the module is malfunctioning, have it checked by a dealer service department. To install, connect both electrical leads to the new module. Place the module in position on the distributor base and tighten the two mounting screws securely. Finally, install the distributor rotor and cap.
