Q:
How to remove the Wiper Motor on Chevrolet Cobalt,HHR and Saturn ION? Posted by Customer
A:
If the wipers work slowly, first check the battery's condition and charge. If the battery is fine, manually operate the wiper arms after removing the wiper motor to inspect for binding linkage and pivots. Lubricate or repair the linkage or pivots as needed before reinstalling the wiper motor. If the wipers still operate slowly, inspect all connections, especially the ground connection, for looseness or corrosion. If the connections are all good, consider replacing the motor. In case the wipers fail to operate when activated, check the fuse, and if it's okay, test the motor's ground terminal by connecting a jumper wire to ground. If the motor works with the jumper wire, repair the ground connection. If the motor still doesn't work, check for voltage at the motor with the wiper switch in the HI position. If there's voltage, remove the motor for off-vehicle testing using fused jumper wires from the battery. If the motor works off the vehicle, check for binding linkage. If it still doesn't work, replace the motor. If there's no voltage to the motor, inspect the wiper control relays for voltage. If the relays have voltage but not the motor, have the switch tested. If the switch is fine, the wiper control relay might be faulty. For interval (delay) function issues, check the continuity of wiring between the switch and wiper control module. If the wipers fail to park at the OFF position, check for voltage at the park feed wire of the wiper motor connector when the switch is OFF but the ignition is ON. If no voltage is present, inspect for an open circuit between the wiper motor and the fuse panel. During wiper motor replacement, for front installation, remove wiper arms and cowl cover, disconnect the electrical connector, and remove the motor and linkage assembly from the cowl area. Finally, remove the motor, ensuring alignment with the marks made on the windshield wiper arms and shafts. For rear (HHR models) removal, remove the rear window wiper arm and liftgate trim panel. Disconnect the electrical connector, remove the rear window wiper motor mounting bolts, and take out the motor. During installation, align the marks made on the rear wiper arm before completing the reverse steps of removal.
