- A:To check the condition of the vehicle's transmission mount, start by raising the vehicle and supporting it securely on jackstands. Then, insert a large screwdriver or prybar into the space between the transmission extension housing and the cross member and try to pry the transmission up slightly. If the mount is cracked or torn, the transmission should not move much at all, indicating the need for replacement. To replace the mount, remove the bolts or nuts attaching it to the cross member and the transmission. Raise the transmission slightly with a jack and remove the mount.
