- Q:How do you remove the old brake pads for the 1996 Chevrolet C1500? Posted by Customer
- A:Work on one brake assembly at a time. Push the piston back into the caliper bore to provide room for the new brake pads. A C-clamp can be used to accomplish this. Remove the C-clamp. Remove the two caliper mounting bolts. Lift the caliper off the disc and remove the outer pad. Pull the inner pad out of the caliper and remove it. Fasten the caliper out of the way with a piece of wire to prevent damage to the brake hose. Remove the mounting bolt seals, then use a scribe or similar tool to extract the rubber bushings from inside the caliper ears. Clean the caliper and mounting bolts and check them for corrosion and damage. Replace the bolts with new ones if they're significantly corroded or damaged.Posted by GMPartsGiant Specialist
