- Q:What is the function of the Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor and Mass Air Flow Sensor and how to replace? Posted by Customer
- A:The Intake Manifold Temperature (IMT) sensor is a thermistor, a resistor which changes its resistance value in response to temperature changes. This change in resistance directly affects the voltage signal from the sensor to the PCM. As the sensor temperature increases, the resistance values decrease and vice versa. The IMT is part of the Mass Air Flow sensor, which uses a hot-wire sensing element to measure the amount of air entering the engine. The air passing over the heated wire causes it to cool. This change in temperature is converted into an analog voltage signal to the PCM, which adjusts the fuel injector pulse width to match the airflow. The MAF/IMT is located on the intake air duct. To replace it, disconnect the sensor electrical connector, remove the two mounting screws and pull the sensor out from the air intake duct.
