Q:
How do you remove and install camshaft sensors in Chevrolet Equinox,GMC Terrain and Pontiac Torrent? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the 3.4L V6 engine, start by removing the air intake duct and disconnecting the CMP sensor electrical connector. Then, remove the mounting bolt and the CMP sensor. For installation, simply reverse the removal steps. The 3.0L and 3.6L V6 engines have four camshaft sensors. If replacing the CMP sensor on the right side, remove the air filter housing. For the left side replacement on 2013 and later 3.6L models, remove the front engine mount. Disconnect the CMP sensor electrical connector and remove the mounting bolt and the CMP sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal. The 2.4L four-cylinder engine has two camshaft sensors, the intake camshaft position sensor located below the fuel pump and the exhaust camshaft sensor located at the corner of the cylinder head above the exhaust manifold. To remove the intake camshaft position sensor, remove the fuel pump cover, disconnect the electrical connector, and remove the mounting bolt and the sensor from the cylinder head. Installation is the reverse of removal.

Q:
Where is the CMP sensor located and how do you remove it for Chevrolet Impala and Monte Carlo? Posted by Customer
A:
The CMP sensor is located at the front and on top of the block, right behind the timing chain cover. To remove the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor from a V6 engine, disconnect the electrical connector , then remove the sensor mounting bolt. Next, remove the CMP sensor retaining bolt and the CMP sensor itself. Remove and discard the old CMP sensor 0-ring. Installation is the reverse of removal. Be sure to use a new 0-ring, lubricate it with a film of clean engine oil, and tighten the CMP sensor bolt securely. For V8 models, use a flashlight to locate the CMP sensor on the timing chain cover. Disconnect the electrical connector from the CMP sensor and remove the sensor mounting bolt. Remove the CMP sensor retaining bolt and the CMP sensor. Installation is the reverse of removal. Lubricate the 0-ring with clean engine oil and be sure to tighten the CMP sensor bolt securely.
