- A:Raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. If you're replacing the knock sensor on the rear cylinder bank (Bank 1), remove the heat shield from the engine block. If you're replacing the knock sensor on the front cylinder bank (Bank 2), remove the engine oil filter. Note: On 2009 and later models, it will be necessary to remove the catalytic converter to access the Bank 2 knock sensor. Disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector by depressing the tab and disconnecting the electrical connector, then remove the knock sensor retaining bolt. Unscrew the knock sensor retaining bolt and detach the sensor from the engine block. Installation is the reverse of removal. - A:To remove the knock sensor, start by disconnecting the cable from the negative battery terminal. Then, raise the vehicle and support it securely on jackstands. If you're working on a 3.0L or 3.6L V6 model, remove the starter motor. For 2013 and later 3.6L models, the left-side knock sensor is located between the oil filter and the starter motor. If you're removing a knock sensor from the rear of the engine, remove the right catalytic converter. Next, disconnect the knock sensor electrical connector. Finally, unscrew the knock sensor retaining bolt and detach the sensor from the engine block.
