Q:
How to remove and install the driveshaft on Chevrolet Avalanche,Silverado,Suburban,Tahoe,GMC Sierra,Yukon,Yukon Denali and Yukon XL? Posted by Customer
A:
To remove the rear driveshaft, the vehicle must be raised and supported on jackstands, with the front wheels blocked. The transmission should be in Neutral with the parking brake off, and reference marks made on the driveshaft and pinion flange to ensure reinstallation in the same position. The rear universal joint bolts and retainers should be removed, and the driveshaft lowered and slid out of the transmission or transfer case. For installation, the front of the driveshaft should be slid back into the transmission or transfer case, and the rear raised into position, with the marks aligned. The bearing caps should be secured with clamps and bolts, and all bolts tightened to the proper torque specifications. For the front driveshaft on 4WD models, the vehicle should be raised and supported on jackstands, with the differential carrier splash shield removed if equipped. The boot at the transfer case output shaft should be disengaged and the relationship of the driveshaft to the front differential companion flange marked. The bolts and clamps should be removed from the differential flange, and the driveshaft pushed to the rear and separated from the flange before being lowered and pulled out of the transfer case. For installation, the rear of the driveshaft should be slid into the splines in the transfer case output shaft, and the front end attached to the differential companion flange with the marks aligned. The clamps and bolts should be installed and tightened to the correct torque specifications, and the boot pushed up over the transfer case output shaft and seated into its groove before a new clamp is installed and crimped into place with clamp-crimping pliers. Finally, the front differential carrier splash shield should be installed.
